State Police soliciting donations

Last night must have been the night for people to be calling me, asking for donations to charities.

The State Police called, asking for money.  They started out their call, saying that they appreciate my past support by my pledges of money (I’ve never given them, nor pledged them any money) but are concerned that I have not paid.  And they are calling to encourage me to pay!

First of all, I thought that the State Police are supported by my tax dollars, why are they calling private citizens and asking for donations?  This makes me feel like I’m being “shaken down” by a mobster, having to pay for protection?????  What is up with that?  Is this one of those scams that I hear about?  Where scammers call up people pretending to be a particular public service/charity trying to raise money but really are not that public service/charity?

Second of all, I never pledged them money, so I don’t owe them any money.

Third of all, every time they’ve called and ASKED for money, I’ve told them to put me on their do not call list!  Why are folks still calling me when I’ve told them to put me on their do not call list?

So, I told her that she is mistaken, I never pledged them any money, that I don’t HAVE any money to pledge to any charitable organization and to put me on their do not call list.

I am very annoyed that they keep calling me.  I think next time it happens I will ask to speak to a supervisor and give him/her an earful!
