Strange dog came a’growling

I decided to work in my flowerbed today.  I was sitting on the ground, pulling weeds and checking on the progress of the newly planted flowers.  I had been out there for about an hour when I heard a soft growl behind me.   I turned around to see a large black Newfoundland dog about three feet away from me.  His fur was bristled, his teeth bared, his tail down.  I have never seen this dog before, but let me tell you, I was NOT very happy to see him now!  He was growling at ME.  I was minding my own business on my own front lawn, tending to my garden, and someone else’s dog is threatening me!?

I talked softly to the dog, and slowly tried to stand up without causing him any more aggravation.  He stood his ground, just growling at me.  I slowly backed away from him, talking softly the whole time, and finally made it into the house safely.  I called the animal control officer, but by the time he arrived the dog had moved on to someone else’s house.

I hope I never see that dog again!  That was very unnerving.  I am afraid that I am going to have to buy some kind of dog deterrent spray to keep with me when I go work in my garden in the future.  I hate doing that, but I don’t want to be bitten by a Newfie!

My brother bought a house in California

My brother just tells me that he bought a house in California.  He says the house is almost perfect except that he and his wife are going to want to remodel the kitchen.  They are going to enlarge it by knocking out a hallway wall and using that space to add a lot more cabinets.

They want to buy their cabinets from American Home Craft.  American Home Craft is a California company that uses only the highest quality materials and has been recognized by the US Green Building Council for their efforts to make their company as “green” as possible.

Neighbor’s Irish Setter Chauncey

My neighbor across the street has a beautiful Irish Setter dog named Chauncey.  During the day, when my neighbor and his wife go to work, they leave the dog inside the house.   The wife (who does not like Chauncey) gets home before the husband gets home, and when she gets home she puts Chauncey outside on a cable tie.  Well, Chauncey does not want to be tied up, so he barks constantly when he is tied up outside.  Sometimes the wife gets tired of hearing him bark and she goes outside and lets him loose.  Well, that stops the barking, but then Chauncey goes to visit a different neighbor’s house who has several dogs in a fenced in yard.  Then THOSE dogs go nuts and THEY bark constantly.  When the husband gets home, he tries to retrieve Chauncey and bring him back in the house.  The problem is that Chauncey is not trained to “come” on command, and so he refuses to “come” and plays the Gingerbread man game (Run, run as fast as you can, you can’t catch me, I’m the Gingerbread man!)  It really is comical to see the chase that ensues every single night.  Chauncey running up and down the street, having the most fun a dog could have, while the husband (who is obvously very angry) is running after him yelling “Chauncey, COME!”  It usually lasts a good fifteen minutes before Chauncey decides he is tired of the game and goes home on his own.

Designer shingles

When my son was house hunting, moving from Virginia to Tennessee, he spent a very long time looking for the perfect house.  I thought he’d never find the house he wanted!

Of course, with a limited amount of money for a down payment, and a limited monthly income at the time, some concessions had to be made.

He wanted 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, and he wanted to be close to the city of Nashville.   After months of searching, he finally found one that he liked, and bought it.  He has been living there for about ten years now; his income has increased, and he has decided that it is time to spruce it up and put on a new roof.  He wants it to stand out as the best looking house in the neighborhood and be the envy of all the neighbors!

I have told him that there is a company called GAF that has really nice designer roofing tiles that would not only make his house more attractive, but it would also add a lot of value to his house.  They have a design range that includes design choices of shingles that look like wood, stone, and slate.  I’ve suggested that he Explore GAF Roofing Options!

Their GAF-Elk’s Premium Designer Shingles have a 50+ year limited warranty against manufacturing defects.  They also offer something called Smart Choice® protection.  Smart Choice® protection is a 10 year non-prorated reimbursement for both replacement materials and installation labor and 110 mph wind coverage.

In addition to residential designer shingles, GAF also sells commercial roofing, composite railing and decking, premium decorative stone, ornamental iron, ductwork, and specialty fabrics.

GAF is one of North America’s largest and fastest growing building products manufacturers.

GAF has been in business since 1886, so you know that they can be trusted to stand behind their products!
