Transformers Sequel Rocks

After two months of hype and a bombardment of movie trailers, we took the 6 year old to the second day’s showing of the new Transformers movie, Revenge of the Fallen. He was so excited, he sat on the edge of his seat for most of the movie. We did it up all the way, with a big overpriced bag of buttered popcorn and a large coke that he plopped into the armrest cup holder like a pro.

The movie was great – a lot of fighting and destruction – just what the kids were hoping for.

However, I think the movie has way too much smutty reference and bad language for a children’s movie. Maybe the Hollywood suits were trying to also appeal to the older kids and young men by including all the sexual scenes and cursing. But in my mind, it was totally unnecessary and almost ruined the product for being appropriate to the younger ages that most appreciated the movie.

It could have been just as great a movie without the smut. In fact, if they had a financial incentive to do so, I bet if they stripped out the nastiness and replaced it with other clever dialogue then relased it, audiences would still love this movie.

Happy Halloween

We always get several dozen kids ringing our doorbell on Halloween night, looking for handouts. I like to pass out the fun sized candy bars. I make sure that they are all peanut free because I know that a lot of people have allergies to peanuts. I put all of the goodies in a large bowl near the door and I let the kids reach in with one hand and grab a handful. If the kid is really little I’ll let the kid take two handfuls. By nine pm the porch lights go out and I head to bed, hoping that when we get up in the morning the mailbox will still be intact and the cars un-egged and unvandalized. So far we’ve been lucky; but some of our neighbors have not been so fortunate in years past. I guess the kids didn’t like their candy!

Just Too Busy

The new Eagles album is out and the first cut to get airplay around here is the song, “Busy Being Fabulous.” I think it is a great slam on the celebrities and too powerful snobs like politicians, CEOs and bosses everywhere. With a very simple and constant refrain, “you were just too busy being fabulous to care about us.”

I wonder if anyone actually said those very words to one of them or if they were able to figure it out for themselves?

A dream vacation

When I was just sixteen, my parents bought me a motorcycle. I loved riding that bike! I found a Motorcycle Tours company called Eagle Rider that rents Harley Davidson motorcycles for dream vacation trips! I’d love to rent a Harley on a vacation and be an Eagle Rider for a few days! According to their website they also rent ATVs, dirt bikes, watercraft, snowmobiles, and scooters. I’ve bookmarked the site for future reference when planning my next vacation!

I love to plan weddings. A wedding is a time of hope, romance, and excitement. Girls start planning their weddings almost from the moment they are born! I love looking at the different wedding favors and gifts that people can buy to give their guests or their bridesmaids and groomsmen. I was reading on the Time.com website that the International Olympic Committee is upholding a ban agains Iraq participating in the Olympics. I didn’t realize that there was a ban in the first place, so I was surprised and interested enough to keep reading. The story was talking about how the government was interfering too much with the country’s Olympic Committee, and how their Olympic Committee was disbanded last May. And then it was talking about how four of the Committee members, including the chief had been kidnapped two years ago and are still missing! Good Grief!

It’s really too bad, but certainly understandable!

I’m going to be going on a vacation this fall with a small group of friends. We’ll be going to Bar Harbor, Maine for the Columbus Day Weekend. We’re going there because the weather will be nice and the fall foliage will be at peak and we’ll be able to get off-season rates on the hotel rooms. We’ve agreed to order matching sweatshirts with custom embroidery on the shirts to commemorate the trip. We’ll be ordering them from the bluecotton.com website. My girlfriend says her office has ordered from them before and they were very pleased with the quality of the shirts and the embroidery.

Don Imus in controversy AGAIN

Well, Don Imus is in the middle of a racism charged controversy again! Last time he got in trouble for referring to some college basketball players with a racial slur. (I don’t have to fill in the details, do I? I think we all know that one!) This time he is being accused of being racist regarding a remark he made about an African American man being arrested several times. I’ve read a few stories about the situation, and in this particular case, I think the point Don Imus was trying to make was that the police are too quick to arrest African Americans.

He sure keeps his name in the spotlight, doesn’t he!

I love a good rodeo

Several months ago my parents bought a two-week vacation package going to Las Vegas this coming December. They just called me and told me that they just found out that they are not going to be able to go on the vacation and have asked me if we want to go in their place. They claim that everything is transferable into our names if we want to go. They said that we could consider that our Christmas present for the year, so I’m actually thinking about going. I’ve never been to Las Vegas!

I was looking at the schedule of events that is happening in Las Vegas during that time period and found that the National Rodeo Finals will be going on during that period. It has been several years since I’ve been able to go to any rodeo, and I sure would love to go see the Finals! I love the barrel racing competition the best of the different rodeo competitions.

I’ve found a website were I can buy Wrangler National Finals Rodeo tickets. I’d really like to try to get some tickets, I’ve been looking at the seating chart of the stadium on the Internet, and I’m not quite sure where I want to sit!

Vacationing in Malaga Spain

My girlfriend Sue called me and asked me to join her next month for a week’s vacation in Malaga Spain. She has already booked a house for us to stay in,;all I have to do is provide the rental car. So I need to go online and search Car hire malaga and find out what kind of rates I can get. I found a website called www.carrentals.co.uk that is a British based website, but it does not restrict itself to serving only British citizen, it will book rental cars all over the world to Americans, too. So I’ll be giving them a try and see what kind of deals I can get through them.

I’ve always enjoyed going to art galleries. I have dabbled a little bit in trying to create things with my hands and have them come out looking decent, so I appreciate the skill and talent and dedication that “real artists” have put into their works. I’d like to someday go see the world’s largest collection of fine arts at the Park West Gallery. Their main location is in Southfield, Michigan, but they have affiliate locations in Miami, FL.

The Park West Gallery not only displays the collections of fine arts but also conducts fine art auctions throughout the United States and Canada.

Customer service

I keep meaning to share a story with y’all about a customer service nightmare that my son recently had. He bought a defective video game at the local NEW Best Buy. The store has only been open a few months. When he brought it home and realized it was defective, he took it back and they exchanged it for another game. This one was defective, too! So my son realized that the entire shipment at Best Buy was probably defective, so he tried calling the customer service telephone number on the package of the video game to ask them about replacement options. He couldn’t get through – he left several messages on their voice mail and they didn’t call him back. So then he tried emailing them, and they didn’t respond. Finally he called customer service again and started dialing all of the extension numbers offered by the machine and left messages everywhere that he needed some help.

Long story short, the PRESIDENT of the US branch of the company returned his call and left a nasty message on our voice mail that unless it was a game they had recalled (it was) he really didn’t give a rat’s behind about the problem my son was having. He said (and this is a quote) “we don’t pride ourselves on customer service!”

Well, by the time that jerk returned the call my son had actually spoken to a real person who told him how to exchange the defective game, and that was all taken care of. The whole point of my story is that the PRESIDENT of the US branch of the company called and said that they don’t pride themselves on customer service! Can you imagine!??????

Sports picks

The folks at work like to run gambling pools. Whatever the sport of the season is, they run a pool. Everyone chips in a dollar and fills out a chart. The winner of the pool wins all of the money. I was complaining to my son that I have no idea at all how to fill out any of the charts, I don’t know the first thing about any of the sports (except for hockey!)

My son told me to check out the addictsports.com website forum. He said that I should be able to get the football picks for the upcoming fall season.

I’d probably be telling him to just go on the Internet to get the lyrics! There is a website called www.rapartists.com that is dedicated to everything related to the rap artists – it has bios, lyrics, pictures, and the latest news in the industry, everything he would have needed!

Building a computer

My kids want a new computer to play games on. We are constantly competing with each other for computer time on the one computer we have. I need to use it to do bookkeeping and pay bills, they want it to do schoolwork and play games. Money is pretty tight, so we are going to be buying a DIY computer kit. It includes easy to read instructions on How to Build a Computer, and all the parts we will need. All we need is a screwdriver to put it together. We will be able to upgrade it in the future if we decide we need to upgrade it. Buying a computer kit will save us hundreds of dollars compared to buying one at a retail store.

My girlfriend Sandy lives in Edinburg, Scotland. We met years ago when she came over here on a business trip, and we’ve kept in touch and she comes to visit over here every year when she has a vacation. Anyway, she tells me that she has found a great deal and bought a new iPod over the Internet at the website www.dealtime.co.uk. She says that it is a great site to find deals on a large variety of products from clothing to electronics, books, toys, movies, video games, even washing machines. What she especially likes about this site is that it includes reviews of the products, to help her figure out what the best product for her really is!
